All right, I hope I have the right e-mail address, they fixed my account or
saw the error that is... they spelled my name Disharoond, damn Navy, can't do
anything right :). Oh well, don't have a lot of time right now. Will write back
later today.

Don't have a lot of time right now---'bout to go fast-roping---but I am sending

Yea, that's the thing Mom... I have only received 2 e-mails from you... the first one then the one from well duh saying there was an e-mail last time... I figured that you probably sent some more but I don't know... some people have been having troubles receiving e-mail and time to time the sent e-mail doesn't get through. Anyway, sending pictures is OK but you can't send too many in one e-mail I have to save pictures then delete them when I get them because it takes up to much space on the computer or something. Anyway, today is Saturday not Friday here :P and for tomorrow, yes, we have some entertainment planned... skeet shooting :) no kidding we are going to fire shotguns off the flight deck tomorrow which will be Sunday. Fun fun fun. Hopefully I will hit a few of the targets... I hope for my ego sake lol. Let's see, nothing much going on... still sleeping a lot.

Hummm that is all I can think of right now. I have 10 more minutes so lets see. ummmm..... doing pretty well, eating well, sleeping well, watching a lot of movies, saw American Wedding today (American Pie 2) Yea, it was bootleg but still pretty cool, the actual sharpness of the image (can't think of the word)... is OK it's kinda fuzzy but can't complain to much. I saw Fight Club today also, and we have cable in our berthing now which is cool, satellite TV with 2 channels :) that's the Navy for ya, anyway it's cool because everyone brought a lot of dvds so all together I think we can pass the time, I am going to lend my "Basic" movie out so everyone can watch (we have a 27 inch TV up in our berthing were everyone can watch movie in a little lobby, I'll send you a package with a camcorder tape in it so you can see were we live and stuff, and all the Hawaiian touristy things I got that I forgot to send :P, just little things nothing big. key chains and sorts,.... next time you send a package.... do you think I can get a battery operated hand held... fan :) that would be cool. That's about it. I have 2 more minutes, so I'll write later.. it's probably morning right now in Tacoma but it's the evening here so I'll send you another e-mail in my morning Later

Well shoot. I just spent 5 minutes trying to figure out how to change the text color so I can reply like you did but oh well... lol. Man one of those talks... well hmmmm... well I think that James has more responsibility than the girls, maybe not combined but 1 on 1...

Well, those days I'm still living; I have to do a bunch of crap that I still don't want to do which are like chores but someone else's mess. I don't know. I think I just figured it's just life; I still disagree, but like you said it's life. I don't know. They have to live it. I think that is what taught me, personally I don't think you can explain why you have to do stupid things, just learn---it's part of work, even in an easy job as the military :P. I got rained on which was weird... ya ya I said weird... because the rain was different. It wasn't cold, it felt more like sweat dripping on me from the sky, but anyway, once we got out of that rain cloud it dried up in like 20-30 minutes, I was like "Wow, that was some heavy rain", it wasn't like coming down hard; it was just big fluffy rain, hard to explain, I felt sticky afterwards probably because it felt like sweat, my head is still hurting. I can't wait till it peels, hmmm... I Get to SHOOT tomorrow :) shoot a machine gun (the .50 cal) that will be fun. Let's see....We have some good training coming up here soon. hmmm... what do you want me to send like ship-logo wise to you... we have like sweatshirts and zippos and stuff. Want anything else besides the stuff from Hawaii (they haven't given us a mail-off day yet so haven't sent it yet) hmmmm. Got only a few more minutes, let's see. Well I guess I'll talk to you later.

Ps. thanks for the long letter and unraveling the flag those 6 times lol :)

Yeah, the 28th is our next mail drop---or so we have been told anyway. It's around 10:30 AM right now, so you're getting quite a time difference, I don't know how many time zones... lost count. Anyway, still doing good; still doing great... btw instead of cigs (mainly navy smoke), Marines usually dip, so Copenhagen snuff in the tin can (not plastic) ---little detective work. I guess stateside and what they call "japenhagen" is totally different, and they can't smoke in the field but they can dip, I think that is why most Marines dip. Nasty habit I wouldn't want to get into. Like I said: Did it once... won't do it again, and haven't. LOL Well, I am seeing someone being Saran wrapped to his chair... very funny, it's all right--- this type of thing happens all the time. I had a bunch of NCOs get me when I went in the middle of them when they were picking on one of my friends.....I ended up hanging upside-down on a pipe. They tied my legs up and hung me up with a rope...lol... Things happen on ship. Well, can't think of anything to write. Will write later.

Well, ok. went back another hour so now it's 13 hours, let's see... had a gear inspection today, pain in the butt, but I found out I somehow acquired a new full sleeping system (sleeping bags) which was unclaimed, so hey, that's around $500 worth of sleeping gear for me :) bg. Well, let's see, candy, nah, won't feel like candy for a while when I go out to were I'm
going because of the weather, so pass on the candy. The candy you sent was really good, thanks for that, since I'm on ship I can enjoy it....I can send free mail now (no, not packages) so I can send letters without a stamp!!!! but you... you still have to put one on :P, ummmm.... let's see what else, we've got a shoot tomorrow. Gonna be cool. Live ammo of course. For the gear inspection they wanted to see our BFA's...the thing that let's us shoot blanks and covers the muzzle so nobody gets hit with anything... Kinda pointless because I don't think we are going to take it with us, but oh well, got the fans!!! They're great, one I haven't tried yet because it takes 4 D batteries, and I only bought 2 so I was like.... Nah, I'll enjoy the hand held one first, plus the big one might be a great trading aid, I am trading my Smith & Wesson knife for some money so I can buy a spring loaded folding knife and another Gerber (good quality company) side knife for a
spare tool, I found a K-bar so I've got one of those big "motivated" knives and the best part is that unlike my other short sword, this is Geneva Convention legal!!!! Which is great, but I think it has a larger blade, I'm gonna sharpen it to razor's edge, and let's see, I'm going to get issued NVG's (night vision goggles) which not a lot of people from my SOI class
have, yeah, I have used them here but they were never mine, can't wait. Anyway I think that is about it for now, hopefully you will reply fast before I hit the rack, I have to get up early tomorrow for the shoot. See ya

lol Well that was an experience---talking on that phone. Ha! Well hmmm, let's see. Today I ate some Girl Scout cookies... because I have a full case up on my rack :) They were giving out free cookies... then, when they couldn't get rid of them fast enough, they started giving away cases :) Pretty good, but the reason that's all I had is because I missed breakfast because I was too lazy to get up in the morning... lunch because we had to get ready for inspections tomorrow, and dinner because some other things came down at the last minute :P So oh well, I ate some peanut butter sandwich cookies creamy style, and some cookies that are like the powdered sugar cookies, they're pretty good.... 12 boxes of cookies for FREE!!! lol can't beat that... Anyway, I talked to my dad when we hung up and yeah, timed it pretty good; half and half. I had 9.30 left on the 20 dollar card. I started to say hi and all that good stuff, then he said, "Hey Sam died last night..." Well, that was a conversation killer and a half. I guess he woke up and saw Sam dead.. took him to the Humane Society and hmmm.. It's 11:00... help me out with that word.... cremated him, but anyway, at least he has that kitten huh? But that's a bummer, hmmm, nothing really changed since I called you like 30 minutes ago, but hey, I'm writing right? and those HINT HINT letters to the kids... yeah, I'll get some letter writing gear and write those boogers a letter OK? lol :) Tomorrow morning I'm gonna buy that spring loaded knife that I was eyeing :) the SOG flash series if you want to look it up. Pretty cool I think, as close you can get to a switch blade that is still legal. hmmm,. can't think of anything else at the moment. I'll try to write back tomorrow.

Subject: Happy T-day
Hey, Happy Thanksgiving, we had some good chow for a change. Had some good turkey and ham, yams, string beans, mash potatoes and gravy, big ol' rolls, and some really not-so-good pumpkin pie, but the main good thing was all the apple cider you can drink and it was in the glass bottles! lol That was some good chow, no, not as good as some home-cooking but really good for ship life. Me, I haven’t been doing much but not a whole lot of extra time, stand by to stand by, doing in and out chores and things, yeah, e-mails have been a pain in the ass because one; e-mail are slow getting out because of that Rivercity thing and then when we get out we have the e-mail junkies who like to read e-mails and send novels back on the computer, it's like geez just do what I do now, save the e-mails on disk, read and write e-mails on your own time and computer because most of them have computers but nooooo, they stay on an hour and get off to get back in line for the other computer. Playing computer ping pong and stuff but anyway yeah, sorry bout that, I just get frustrated. I wait like an hour and stay on it for a whole 4 minutes tops---it sucks big time. Well that’s about it for the e-mail situation, I've been good, nothing really going on here worth writing about. Can't wait to hit land again and get off this cave on the water lol…. It's been a few days since I've seen the outside, but that’s normal. I sometimes go a week or two without seeing outside, if you haven’t been getting my e-mails, yes the condition zero is the right one. Anyway I'm sending the pictures numbered here so here goes... All right...here's the real letter. Hey I'm doing good, got done with a lot of stuff, been pretty busy as you now know. Everything else is pretty good. Oh, BTW, there is a 12 hours difference again and I'll probably be calling both you guys some time around midnight my time or later tomorrow.... just letting you guys now. I may be early or late depending on the line for the phones, it shouldn't be too bad because the phones been up for a few days now so most of the people should have gotten it out of their system by now, but just in case.... Anyway, did you hear that the mail truck got stolen?...Yeah, that sucked, I sent just a few small things that I'll replace when we hit port again so no biggie, but just to let you know. And let's, see did James like the photos? And what questions have I not answered yet? Can't think of them right now, can't really think of anything else to write so I'll get off the computer here. Can you also send this letter to my dad? Thanks.

Back from UAE! We fired some rifles and mortars. I have some pictures and movie clips that I will be sharing in the next day or 2 when ever I get to it. Today has been pretty busy... doing something every second of the day.... not much time to catch my breath really, but oh well. The training was fun especially the rush course we did with live grenades and rounds. We did pretty good. Our little shoot was fun too, I saw some jets drop 500 LB bombs, and helicopters shoot missiles and shoot the Vulcan gun (that gattling gun that shoots like 6000 rounds per minute). Well just saying Hi and happy holidays. I'll be calling soon so talk to you later.

We did some rifle shooting and mortar shooting....I have lots of pictures to send within the next day or two. It was pretty fun to get off the ship but that was about it. Well, got your package!!! Wow thanks for the sesame seed snaps and the candy and the calendar, the Yahtzee has been on ever since I got the package. Hasn't been long just a few hours but hey it's pretty fun. Well trying not to take up everyone else's time so I'm gonna write a letter to Dad if you can forward it to him please. Thanks.

We;re getting jerked around like I don't know what, it's been a madhouse here. Well, I'll write a longer e-mail on my computer here and get the pictures ready after around 1:00 PM (Our time of course :P) We got a 12 hour time difference now. Hey! Well, it's Christmas here... oh boy, oh boy! lol. Crummy if you ask me. Really don't have anything planned but I'll probably end up in the beer garden with a bunch of buddies telling stories over a dollar beer or two. A few people have that force protection where they guard the gates and roam around making sure that it's safe..which sucks, but oh well . Anyway, expect a call within an hour or 2 hopefully if they are open. I'll let you go so Merry Xmas eve!

Steve

Just an Update: Jan 1, 2004
Steve called Christmas Day! They are going back to you-know-where for more you-know-what ops sometime soon. One member of one of my newsgroups got this message from her boyfriend...
DEC 30: We are conducting special operations and we can't talk about it. So, the only thing you can do is wait. P.S. I did receive an e-mail saying that everyone is o.k.

Lol! Oh well, anyway, I'm doing good. Boring but livable (however you spell it). I'll resend the pictures I said I would a while ago but yeah, e-mail went down so I'll send them later today. Oh yeah, and I was passed some well, good news for you guys but not so good news for me... they selected me to be an office worker next year, a what we call a Pog. Which sucks, for me, but like I said, good news for you guys. They selected me because of my asvap and pt scores :( Oh well, and they think I am good with computers, I get to carry the company guidon next year... Anyway, all and all I am going to have a desk job in a few months, not a year; but when we get back from deployment. Well, write to you later.

Thanks alot for your help, mom. I got in contact with them over e-mail. All I have to do is write a letter then fax it which will be the easiest way to do it. I am now a paper pusher. Its got its perks but I didn't sign up for this job; I signed to be infantry.... not a paper pusher but life will go on. I'll live with it for a bit then move to something else. My job is boring as hell; doing databases and stuff, really boring if you ask me but everyone keeps saying that it's a "hook up" (meaning that it is a good thing) and that later it will be a lot cooler... I doubt this. I am still a paper pusher, Oh well after next float I'll hav

Okay, well, let's get it straight... Yes, I will be a full-blown POG for a year, about which will be from now till after next float. I guess this happens every cycle when someone from Weapons gets to go to the office to help out. Then after the next float, I will be able to probably go where I want to go. But yes, I am a full-blown POG Which I didn't sign up for...I signed up to be in the infantry but oh well, I was chosen because my GT score and computer knowledge, but I also found out that out of 151 people in the company, I am #9 for GT which is really good. I have a 124 and the highest is a 133, anyway I'll be getting a Humvee license when we get back so it's OK I guess, I'll just have to live with it.
I'll be coming home around early March from what we heard thus so far, and yes, I can take my leave during May. I'll just hold off on the post-deployment till then. I am now up in the office so really I can do a lot more than I used to be able to do; if I need something done I dont have to go through the chain of command (IE squad leader talks to the section leader who talks to the platoon sgt who talks to the platoon commander who talks to first sgt) I just go up to first sgt and ask. Anyway, that's about it. Oh, and I haven't gotten the package yet. I just got paid today so tomorrow, if I have time, I'll send the stuff off, time willing of course. Well, write to you later.

BTW, Mom, San Diego won't be like after boot camp. I won't be able to stay, and let's see, the birthday thing I will try to setup now that I'm in the office. I have a bigger voice and they may hook me up with it, if not then I don't know...what I was thinking was taking the post-deployment, losing my paperwork then taking the birthday one later on. Well, yeah, I have some power, I'm the last one to see the papers and I log them in so if I don't turn it in, it didn't happen :) Well, that's about it for now. Write to you later.

Let's see, this is gonna take a while, I guess. Yeah, the people who scored higher were people who took it 2 or more times (the ASVAP test) and most of them are officers and senior enlisted, so they didn't get the option to be the office worker. :p) They are asking people if they want to take a reading comprehensive test soon and they say it is for like EOD (explosive ordinance disposal) which I am interested in, Counter-Intel (also interested in) so hopefully when I am done with the next float, I can do a lat move to one of those two. My first choice is EOD, though. :) Get a lot of pay for doing it and get to blow things up. :) Fun, fun...paying me for blowing up really big fireworks, big boomers and stuff. Second is Counter-Intel because that sounds fun, too. Knowing things a lot of people don't know and passing out false information and both have really good jobs in civilian life for when or if I decide to get out. So far, that is my plan of attack; 2 perfect jobs for me both here and if need be, in civilian life as well where I will have fun and get paid the big bucks. Anyway, with the homecoming thing, I have no clue. I'm not saying don't come, but now that my leave will be within a week or two of my getting back, you will be seeing me; on the other hand, it would be kinda cool, except I won't be on the ship when it pulls back in. I'm not in the Navy :). I get off on a little landing craft and maybe next year Dad can go on the tiger cruise. BTW, if you do come down, it would be cool to see my cousin, Dan, too. Man, I gotta eat. I'm getting hunger pains. I guess it's time to eat. It's been at least a good 4 hours. I have been eating 4 meals a day plus snacks and stuff. I think my metabolism is rising. :) Maybe because my lazy behind is actually doing things now, but 4 meals and snacks between...lol! Oh well. I'm enjoying my job more and more because I am finding out slowly its hidden perks and I get to control everything, like PFT scores, duty roster, leave days and so on. Anyway, GTG. Please write a list of questions!

Well, the bad new is that no, I won't be getting any time off for my birthday, but the good news is that I'll be getting time off before next deployment. And I did get a package when e-mail was down. The cookies and stuff was good, got eaten up by me and some friends in a hurry. Well, it's 4 AM here (remember, I'm in a different time zone now...it changes regularly) and it's almost breakfast time...the most important meal of the day. Well, it's the Super Bowl Monday so we get that day off (Monday for us...not quite the same ring to it but hey, we get the day off). The Condition Zero I'm not too worried about it. We are having fun with the original Counterstrike every Saturday night. Remember the overnighters at the Fuge? Well, I came up with the same idea for the ship and we start around 6AM and end at breakfast. We have a hub and connect 5 players. A few are new to the game and boy, do I whoop the crap out of them. lol! Guess it has to do with the time I put into it, sadly, but oh well...most of that time I played free at the Fuge so doesn't matter. Well, that's about it for now. You have known everything else practically before me, excluding a few things. Let's see, yeah, and Duenas is from Texas. I think Cole's volume was off so I don't think your e-mail "got" him the way you wanted, but MMMEEEEEE, on the other hand, had to hear it so I turned it down about a quarter of the way to barely hear it...yeah, the whole berthing heard it so you got me but you didn't get him. lol Let's see, nothing really going on here. Things are gonna get really busy later during this week so just a heads-up. We're going to be doing a lot of cleaning of our vehicles and everything that got off the boat in those damned dirty countries like Iraq so we don't spread cooties or "hoggie" germs around back in the US...whatever. Well, looks like I should have kept that receipt. lol! I guess the E18 message is a common one and a camera killer. I will have to send it in when I get back. That really sucks. Oh well, I'll get it fixed and if it craps out again, I'll fix it and sell it. He-he-he. So I don't think the sand is what killed it. I think I just got a bummer camera...what is it with me and technical electronics? Remember Brainwarp? Just one of the many instances of bad luck with this kind of stuff. Well, I'm glad my computer works so that's good. Yeah, well, that's it about the camera. I can't believe how much of a life saver that computer is. Plays movies, plays games and I can type letters out and stuff. If I didn't have it, I would be one bored Dish. lol...do you remember Jesse, you dropped him off once in front of Aaron's house. He's pretty cool. Well, I've been e-mailing him because he is in the Navy now. lol So we go back and forth friendly-like now for the past 2 days...all in good fun, though. Well, it looks like someone is on right now. no, no, no. I just searched for the error itself and found out that it has to do with the lens or the lens casing being messed up, then I continued to look and I guess it is a popular problem. Oh, and getting it back to the store is NOT an option. :p You must be tired...I got it in UAE, kinda hard to get back there. lol. I will take it to a place and get it fixed. Looks like I gotta take it to a dealer service center, though. Well, let's see. What else is there. Uhm...I didn't use my ATM card. I don't have a debit card, the last time I had one of those was back when I had Washington Mutual. What else Man, I remember those long days when you went to the hair dresser and I did dread those days. Yeah, our steak last night...well, all our meals for the past week have sucked big time. It seems like a 9 year old took charge of the kitchen. Everything is either overcooked or frozen. It doesn't taste very good and they messed up lobster and steak last night. we didn't have lobster and steak. It as so bad we had sea mush and shoe leather with a mix of beef jerky, we were joking about sending it to NASA so maybe they could use it to replace those tiles. The steak can't get any more burnt so it would work. Or they can reinforce concrete without all the trouble of rebar...or making a harder bullet for piercing armor, or making a gym out of the stuff..you can try to rip it apart and get a good workout. lol Well that's about it for now.

lol What is he saying? And yes, I tried to send Karen an e-mail back one of the first times e-mail was messed up. That is what I am thinking since I didn't get a reply. And I did get Aunt Lora's package yesterday and e-mailed her earlier today (this morning). Shane is doing good. The Big E?? What is that? Whatever it is I hope I didn't see it. :p At Singapore you can get just about anything about at any price...you just have to say I know you want $10 but I only have $7 and all those little shops out of a cart...they'll sell. At the mall it's a different story...you only have $9.50...too bad. well, there is always next year. We might go there if not, I'm sure we will go to some sort of Asian country to or from. And libo time here is like nil for me, anyway. I have to work all day from about 5:30AM to 8:00PM so I just go to sleep. And days here..we have a few more days. I think what I'm going to do is hit up the PX for some chevrons and little things. Well, that's it for now. Write to you later.

Yeah, it's a bummer..... a corpsman is a navy doc, but I heard it was a Marine, Cpl. I guess there are a few names swirling around. We were in River City for a bit. yeah, it's a bummer that it happened so close to getting home, you know, less than 3 weeks away. Speaking of which, can you please go ahead and book my flight? For late evening on the 12th to evening the 23rd. Not too late---I want to be able to catch a train then a bus so around (arrival time) 6:00 PM. That should be enough time. Thanks. I just got the go-ahead from 1st Sgt while writing the e-mail. (I asked, man, I love not having to go through a chain of command!)
Anyway, that is a real bummer. Just a couple days before we were done with the final wash-downs, just a few more days before we would be in Hawaii then a few more til we hit home. Well, it's a shame and dying like that would be one of the worst ways to die; drowning in a tank because it fell of the boat. Rumors yesterday are that it wasn't strapped down good enough..it was all due to someone messing up. Well, GTG back to work so I'll write you later.

The 1st Sgt is busy with stuff, because now things are gonna get changed around. Tell you why later. Well, let's see...hold off on your ticket for now please. I would like to get some final info for you. Well, that's about it for now. Talk to you later.

Yeah, it's Sunday!! I get to sleep in after doing the morning report, which I just did. I know I won't be able to write later so I'll write now. Well, let's see, yeah, the waves are getting bigger, but no; I haven't been seasick yet (No, I'm not acting all tough and stuff) a few people have, which is ALWAYS funny, we have hit some waves where you can feel the boat stop a little. lol. We joke saying "Yup, we just hit another whale" or iceberg right ahead and stupid stuff like that, while a few people are paying tribute to the porcelain god. Well, that's it for now. Talk to you later.

Tell Jac happy birthday for me. I'll try...like I try every time (but fail) to go carting with them. Oh, BTW, I will be getting issued a 9mm Beretta here in a few months. :) Goody! So I'll probably buy one so I can practice with it so I don't look so dumb while handling it around everyone. lol! Yeah, I guess it will look cool with the high-speed, low-drag pistol holster that goes on my leg. And, of course, I made my class. If I didn't, I would have to pay $150, which, of course, I'm not willing to do. :) Yeah, I got a B+. Yeah, yeah...not an A because I accidentally missed a class and that was during one of our daily quizzes so that is why...no biggy. I'll take some more during next deployment, though. They issue the 9mm and then they train you up on it. I already know how to handle it, solve any misfires or mishaps it has, how to clear it, reload, speed reload, tactical reload, and how to holster the thing, how to aim in, how to fix a steel pipe (when the casing doesn't eject all the way and gets caught in the slide) how not to point it at people, how to grip it, and a while ago I shot 100 rounds through it for familiarization. (back at Pendleton) and the class I did take for college credit was criminal justice. "lol! Dad just said you were the most dangerous thing in the Marines...a POG with a sidearm!! ha-ha-ha!! EVERYBODY RUN FOR COVER!!" lol. Well, well. Someone has jokes...lol. I still have a grunt MOS. I am just a grunt at a desk that is all. I still have the same amount of training as my old platoon does... and I will probably be firing my rifle soon without the 81s. Being in the office has its rewards... CAAT platoon has an extra space open for their shoot and their platoon sgt was up there and I asked and he said yeah. So there :P and BTW, I need it because if we are out there somewhere, my job is to protect the XO and CO. So if officers trust me..... then I must not be half bad, Mom, so there :P lol. Yesterday the rocking was so bad I was sitting in my chair typing and it rocked and slid me back. I was getting frustrated.... type type scoot.... type type scoot It's going pretty good right now. It might be because I'm up in the company office now and it is higher up than the berthing area. Well, GTG. It's breakfast time!!! Write to you later.... oh, BTW, I couldn't find my phone in time to reactivate it in Guam..... but I found it...... can you call in and reactivate it please so I will have it in Hawaii the first day? Thanks.
